Steep Canyon Rangers has affirmed their place as one of the most versatile bands in contemporary American music. The Grammy Award-winning sextet blends a bluegrass aesthetic with elements of pop, country, and folk to create something original. Based in Asheville, North Carolina, Steep Canyon Rangers formed in 2000 and have developed a remarkable catalogue of original music that links them to the past and, at the same time, demonstrates their ambitious intent to bring string-based music into contemporary relevance.

Steep Canyon Rangers are frequent collaborators with renowned comedian and banjoist Steve Martin. Recently, the band collaborated with Boyz II Men and the Asheville Symphony to overhaul the Steep Canyon Rangers’ original “Be Still Moses,” which was first recorded on their 2007 breakout album Lovin’ Pretty Women. They will release a new live album, North Carolina Songbook, on Friday, Nov. 29, which is a recording of the band’s 2019 performance of North Carolina songwriters at Merlefest.

A free CyberCafé Knapp Stage Pre-Show Concert featuring local guitarist and singer Ralph Kluseman will precede Steep Canyon Rangers from 6 to 7 p.m.
