Track & Field Travels to NCAA DIII Indoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA announced the qualifiers for the 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, with the Spartan women qualifying in five events and the men in two.
For the UD women, Ya’Mia Ailes-Primes and Caroline Ferguson will both take part in two events. Ailes-Primes will run in both the 60m dash and 200m dash, while Ferguson will throw the shot put and weight throw. Alison Beeman was supposed to join Ailes-Primes in the sprints but an injury will keep her from competing. Ferguson will be joined by Kayla Slowick in the shot put, as they have the 10th and seventh best marks in Division III. Olivia Costley rounds out the women group with the 400m run.
Senior Colfay Pointer highlights the men’s group as he has the second best time in the country in the 400m run. Clayton Hahn sealed his spot in the weight throw for championships on the final day of qualifying. Hahn launched a throw of 16.72m (54-10.25) on Saturday at the Wartburg Last Chance to give him the 14th best mark.
For each men’s individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each women’s individual event contested, including the pentathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
The championships will be held March 13-14 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with Visit Winston-Salem and Guilford College serving as hosts.
