TBILISI, Georgia – University of Dubuque assistant wrestling coach Nate Hansen heads overseas to wrestle in the 2019 United World Wrestling Veterans Freestyle and Greco-Roman World Championships, Oct. 8-13th in Tbilisi, Georgia. UD Head Coach Jon McGovern will coach the USA team at the World Championships for the second straight year.

Hansen, a former NCAA Division III national champion and Division I assistant, begins his first season as a UD assistant coach with the trip to the World Championships, where he will face the top competition in the world during the six day event beginning on October 8th.

"The training has helped me connect with people and make me a better coach and give back to the UD wrestlers," said Hansen.

McGovern accepted the opportunity to coach USA Freestyle Masters team again after helping coach the USA Wrestling Masters Team to a 5th place finish in Skopje Macedonia in 2018 World Championships.

“There are former Olympic Medalists competing here and the level of competition at the world stage is good for our UD program to stay engaged with some of the best wrestling master competitors in the USA and in the world.” Coach McGovern said. “The opportunities to work with the USA Wrestling Team have opened up many top recruits looking to come to UD as well as having UD being a premier consideration for top coaches in the USA to send their wrestlers.” he said.
