UD Blanks Wartburg To Move To 3-0 In Conference Play

WAVERLY, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men's soccer team improved to 3-0 in American Rivers Conference action with a 1-0 victory over Wartburg College behind a goal from Glorie Luwara.

How It Happened
-Wartburg opened with the ball but UD gained possession quickly and went right down the field, firing off a shot in just 48 seconds, however, it was saved. In all, the Spartans attempted three shots in the opening 22 minutes of play but were denied each time.
-The Spartans struck gold first, in the 23rd minute when Joel Johansson fired a shot from about 20 yards out which was saved by a diving Wartburg goalkeeper but the ball ended up at the feet of Glorie Luwara to tapped it home for the easy goal and the 1-0 UD lead
-UD outshot the Knights 5-2 in the first half, with neither of Wartburg’s shots going on net.
-With UD still clinging to the 1-0 lead in the 87th minute, there was a mad scramble on the edge of the 18 in front of UD's net, which led to a Wartburg chip pass into the box and a header but it sailed just wide left.
-Moments later, Wartburg had another opportunity at a header, this time going on net but it went safely into the hands of UD goalie Brandon White and UD would run out the remainder of the clock.
-The teams were nearly identical in shots, with the Spartans having the edge with 7-6, but UD limited Wartburg to just one shot on goal, while UD attempted five.
