University of Dubuque Named a 2020-21 Military Friendly® School

Feb 18, 2020

DUBUQUE, Iowa – University of Dubuque’s commitment to military-affiliated students was recognized with a Top 10 2020-21 Military Friendly® Schools designation. UD was ranked third in the nation for private schools offering a doctorate in the annual nationwide list.

“It is proof positive that University of Dubuque and the Sergeant Jeffrey B. Dodge Veterans Center are providing some of the best opportunities for the military community, veterans, and their family members in achieving their educational goals,” said Rick Ernst (CSM, USA, Ret), director of the veterans center.

Over 145 military-affiliated students attend UD. The University’s commitment to service members and veterans dates back to World War II with the Navy’s V5/V12 programs and continues to the present day with a vibrant U.S. Army ROTC program. Additionally, the Sergeant Jeffrey B. Dodge Veterans Center provides veterans a seamless transition from military life to civilian college life.

In its 10th year, the Military Friendly® Schools list is the longest-running most comprehensive review of college and university investments in serving military and veteran students.

Institutions that earned the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using public and data sources and responses from a proprietary survey completed by the institution. This year, 625 schools from every state in the country earned the prestigious designation.

Methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by VIQTORY with input from the Military Friendly® Advisory Council. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer), and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.

The 2020-21 Military Friendly® Schools list will be published in the May issue of G.I. Jobs magazine. The list can be found online at www.militaryfriendly.com.
