Volleyball Achieves AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. - For the 10th straight season, the University of Dubuque volleyball team earned the AVCA Team Academic Award after posting a team GPA of 3.58 during the 2018-19 school year.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association recoginzes high school and collegiate teams that accumulate a GPA of 3.30 or better through the course of the school year. For the 2018-19 school year, 1,126 picked up the award, setting a new AVCA record. 

The University of Dubuque volleyball program was one of just 175 schools in NCAA Division III to post a GPA of 3.30 last school year.

The AVCA Team Academic Award is the single largest award offered by quantity of schools, players and coaches honored. Since the 2000-2001 season, the number of recipients has increased every single year but two, while more than doubling the total over the last eight academic years. Since the award's inception in 1993, the amount of award winners has increased from 62 to its current number of 1,126.

The Spartans are just a month away from beginning their 2019 season. Action will get underway on August 30th when they travel to the St. Mary's University Sugar Loaf Classic.
