Women's Basketball Open League Play With a Loss

BOX SCORE vs. Simpson College

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team began American Rivers Conference play on Tuesday night on the road and lost the league opener 59-101 to the host Simpson College Storm.

The Spartans trailed after the first quarter 15-22 and were out scored 16-27 in the second period to trail at halftime 31-49. The Storm broke the game open in the third period out scoring UD 35-15. The fourth quarter, the Spartans kept it about even scoring 13 and holding the Storm to 17 points in the final ten minutes.

Offensively UD was led by Jaden Kelley who came off the bench to finish the night with 18 points after shooting 6-9 from the field and a perfect 6-6 at the freethrow line. Tabria Thomas and Abigail Zurcher both would end with 10 points. Miah Smith collected six defensive rebounds to finish with seven total. UD struggled from the outside sinking three of 20 attempts beyond the three point arc (15%).

The Spartans will enjoy a few days off for Thanksgiving before returning to action against the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairiewolves on December 7 in the warm confines of Stoltz Sports Center on Jon Davison Court at 2 p.m.
