Women's Basketball Slowed By Storm

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque suffered a 72-46 defeat at the hands of Simpson College on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans fell into a quick 12-0 hole before a Tabria Thomas layup got the Spartans on the bard with 4:18 into the first. UD would score six of the final eight points of the first quarter to head into the second trailing 18-10. The Spartan offense went cold in the second, shooting just 8.3% from the field and was outscored 23-4 in the quarter to go into halftime down 41-14.

Trailing by 32 heading into the fourth quarter, the Spartans would outscore the Storm in the final quarter 20-14, while shooting 60% in the frame.

Tabria Thomas and Josie Thomas each dropped 10 points to lead the Spartans against the Storm.  Kathleen Mathias was a force on the boards, grabbing a team-high seven rebounds, six of which came off the defensive glass. Mathias added five points to go with her seven rebounds. Jaden Kelley tallied eight points and had a team best plus/minus of five.

The UD defense hassled the Storm offense, forcing the Simpson offense into 25 turnovers.

The Spartans have the week off before traveling out west to Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, Feb. 1st with a tip time of 2 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb.
