How It Happened
-In the 25th minute, the Spartans drew a free kick for their first attempt at a shot from about 22 yards out. After clearing away the snow, Brooke Brodzinksi sent the free kick over the Wartburg wall, but the Knights goalkeeper made a running save.
-The Knights got out for a fast break in the 32nd minute, leading to a cross from the right side into the box, after deflecting off a couple of players from both teams, Wartburg tapped home a shot to take the 1-0 lead.
-Wartburg tacked on another goal before halftime, to make it 2-0 at the break after a Knights corner kick skipped of players heads in the middle of the box, right to the back post where it was headed in.
-In the early minutes of the second half, the Knights took advantage of another corner kick. The corner led to a scramble in the box and eventually found its way of the scramble right to Warburg’s Molly Close, who was able to put it home easily and put the Spartans in a 3-0 hole.
-Wartburg would add one more goal in the 62nd minute to make it 4-0 and the score would hold there through the 90th minute.
-The UD offense could never get any momentum going, as Brooke Brodzinski attempted the only two shots on the night for the Spartans.
-This was just the second time this season that the Spartans had given up more than two goals.
