2021 Service of Remembrance Program

Dear UD Community,

As we near Holy Week and Easter, we will hold the eighth Convocation for Thanksgiving and Remembrance at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2021. Our in-person gathering will be limited to UD students, faculty, and staff in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center, with face coverings required. We will also livestream the event through our Facebook page or YouTube channel for everyone to view.

This is a moving tradition that provides an opportunity to recall our hope in the Resurrection and to remember those who have recently died. Much loss has been experienced as of late, and while we may grieve, we do not grieve alone, nor as a people without hope. During this Convocation, we will remember UD faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, friends, and family who are close to our hearts. Let us remember them in our prayers and through our liturgy, as a University community.

The worship service will extend through the regular chapel time with classes delayed until 11:45 a.m. This year’s Convocation will feature Charles Barland, DMA, on the new John and Alice Butler Pipe Organ. Additional inspiring music will be provided by the UD Chamber Singers and a worship ministry ensemble, with leadership from Kristen Eby and Will Bentley.

For those attending in-person, you will be invited to light a luminary in remembrance of a loved one or simply in recognition of those lost to COVID-19.

Please join me in observing this tradition at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2021, at Heritage Center or on our Facebook page and YouTube channel.
