1. Why did you volunteer to be a first-year experience mentor?

“I volunteered to be a first-year experience mentor because of my mentor during my first year on campus. He made my group feel not only comfortable with him, but also with each other. I knew that is what I wanted to be to other first-year students.”

2. What do you enjoy about being a first-year experience mentor?

“What I enjoy about being a first-year mentor is getting to know where the students are from and seeing them succeed during their college experience.”

3. What advice do you have for first-year students?

“Some advice I would give first-year students is to show up to class even if your homework is not done. Professors would rather you be present and learning the coursework than skipping class and falling behind.”

4. How did New Student Orientation help you when you were a new student?

“New Student Orientation helped me find my first friends on campus as well as learn about the resources I can use as a student.”

5. What is your favorite spot on campus?

“My favorite spot on campus is Heritage Center. Not only is it where you can get food, but there is also a lot of student presence and engagement there.”
