Division of Engineering and Mathematics

The Division of Engineering and Mathematics serves students interested in mathematics, engineering, and their many applications, fostering inquiry, analytical reasoning, hands-on problem solving, and an appreciation for the patterns, structures, and principles that shape the world around us. Across both disciplines, students develop the ability to approach complex questions with precision and curiosity, connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications, and use quantitative and technical reasoning to address real-world challenges. Mathematics provides a rigorous analytical foundation through the study of patterns, numbers, shape, and change, with coursework in analysis, multivariable calculus, statistical applications, and related fields. Engineering complements this foundation through technical expertise and real-world problem solving, using UD's distinctive cross-functional innovation approach to engage students in interdisciplinary, human-centered design projects that emphasize creativity, collaboration, communication, ethical responsibility, and service.

Across both programs, students develop the technical expertise, analytical rigor, and professional skills needed to adapt, lead, and innovate in a rapidly changing world. Mathematics graduates are prepared for careers in teaching, actuarial work, applied mathematics, and academics, while Engineering graduates are prepared to design meaningful solutions and apply emerging technologies to challenges in their communities and beyond.
