RECEPTION: AUGUST 15, 2026 - 6:00 P.M.
IN CONJUNCTION WITH DAILEY & VINCENT: A BEAUTIFUL LIFE TOUR - 7:30 P.M.

The Plein Air Painters of Dubuque are a talented group of artists from the tri-state region who share a passion for painting outdoors. Their members are actively involved in the local community and support one another through a variety of en plein air painting events and artistic endeavors in diverse landscapes and settings. This tradition of painting on location originated with the early Impressionists, who embraced the opportunity to capture the ever-changing effects of natural light and color. Influenced by each artist's unique interpretation, as well as the time of day and weather conditions, every painting reveals a distinctive harmony of color and atmosphere.

A welcoming, enriching, and enthusiastic community of artists, the Plein Air Painters of Dubuque represent all skill levels and a wide range of artistic mediums. Through their individual perspectives and creative vision, these painters invite viewers to experience familiar places in fresh and unexpected ways. Each artist brings a unique style, color palette, and preferred medium to their work.

The collection presented at "UD Expressions: Plein Air Painters of Dubuque" was created over the course of three months from May 2026 to July 2026. It focuses on locations throughout the University of Dubuque's main campus in Dubuque, Iowa, as well as UD's Wolter Woods and Prairies in Sherrill, Iowa. As patrons explore the exhibition, they will discover how multiple artists interpreted the same buildings and landscapes, with each work offering its own distinctive perspective and artistic voice.
