UD Relays Excel at Dr. Tucker Open

The University of Dubuque Track & Field teams have been busy over the last two days competing in the Drake Relays on Friday and the Dr. Tucker Open on Saturday. UD women's relay teams brought home two first place finishes including a school record in the 4x400m. Evan Zurbuchen won the Men's 110m Hurdles.
Wolfe Leads Men's Golf into Final Weekend

The University of Dubuque will still be in the lead as the 2014 Iowa Conference Men's Golf Championships transitions to Dubuque Golf & Country Club next weekend, but the Spartans saw their nine-stroke lead reduced to seven and a new challenger emerge Saturday at Finkbine Golf Course. The Spartans posted a 306 team score Saturday and bring a 601 total into next weekend's final 36 holes.
UD Social Justice Class to Hold Second Annual Debate

On Wednesday, May 7, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., the University of Dubuque’s Honors Program will hold the Second Annual Social Justice Debate in Heritage Center’s John and Alice Butler Hall. The intent of the debate is to provide illumination on two controversial topics. Students will engage in parliamentary-style debating, which involves alternating rounds and audience participation. Doors open at 5:30; the public is encouraged to attend this open event.
UD to Host Second Annual Celebration of Student Scholarship and Creativity

Tuesday, April 29 through Thursday, May 1, the University of Dubuque will host the second annual Apex: Celebration of Student Scholarship and Creativity. Events will be held in Heritage Center at various times over the three-day period (see schedule). All events are free and open to the public.
Football Earns 10 NFF Hampshire Honor Society Members

The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced today the members of the 2014 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career. A total of 838 players from 267 schools qualified for membership in the society's eighth year, setting a new record for the number of members in the history of the program, which began in 2007. The University of Dubuque is proud to lead the Iowa Conference with 10 new members.
Wolfe Named Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week

University of Dubuque golfer Eric Wolfe has been named IIAC Male Athlete of the Week and Golfer of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 27, 2014. Wolfe shot back-to-back 70's in the first two rounds of the IIAC Championships over the weekend under difficult conditions at Finkbine Golf Course. His 36 hole total of 140 (-4 under par) has him five strokes ahead for medalist honors.
Billesbach & Woltz Voted First Team Academic All-District

University of Dubuque sophomores Ainsley Billesbach and Tori Woltz have been named to the First Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District (District #8) Softball team. To be selected a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher and be a sophomore or above.
Softball Stunned in IIAC Tournament Opener

The University of Dubuque softball team had high hopes when they opened the 2014 IIAC Softball Tournament against the Simpson College Storm. The #5-seeded Spartans was held to just three hits in the 0-8 loss to the #4 seeded Simpson College Storm. Meggie Schmidt, Tori Woltz, and Carlee Grunder all had singles.
Men's Golf Lead by Three Strokes at IIAC Championships

The University of Dubuque men's golf team entered the third round of the 2014 IIAC Men's Golf Championships with a seven stroke lead. Friday afternoon, the lead was narrowed to three strokes as the hard charging Central College Dutch gained ground with one round remaining. UD enters the final round with a team score of 905 as Central enters with a score of 908. UD and Central have distanced the field with Luther in third place with a score of 925. UD's Eric Wolfe stretched his advantage to seven strokes for medalist honors after he finished with a round of 75 on Friday. All five Spartans are currently in the Top-16 of the field.
Ninth Inning Rally Nets Spartans Split vs. Luther

The University of Dubuque Baseball team seen its chance at a berth in the 2014 Iowa Conference Baseball Tournament end on Friday afternoon at Luther College. The Spartans 1-0 loss in game one eliminated them from contention for the sixth and final spot in the conference tournament. After a slow start in game two, UD scored five runs in the top of the ninth to earn a 6-3 victory. Spartans closer Justin Naval pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his fifth save of the year, tying the school record.
