UD Expands LIFE Accelerated Adult Degree Program to Cedar Rapids

The University of Dubuque is pleased to announce the expansion of its accelerated adult degree program – LIFE (Learning Institute for Fulfillment and Engagement) – in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The University’s LIFE program offers accelerated baccalaureate and master’s degree programs for adult learners.

University of Dubuque to Dedicate Heritage Center

On Sunday morning, October 13, the University of Dubuque will officially dedicate the new Heritage Center. The Festival Worship Service and Dedication of Heritage Center will begin at 11:00 a.m. in John and Alice Butler Hall of Heritage Center.

2013 Athletics Hall of Fame Class

The University of Dubuque will induct the 2013 Athletics Hall of Fame Class on October 12, 2013. This year's honorees are: Greg Ortberg (Class of 2000) and the the 1959 Cross Country Team. Jerry Petitgoue (Class of 1963) will be inducted into the Hall of Distinction.

UD Mediation Team Nationally Ranked

From October 31-November 2, the University of Dubuque mediation team competed at the fourteenth Annual International Intercollegiate Mediation Tournament at Drake University Law School. The event attracted schools from throughout the United States including: Boston University, Middle Tennessee State University, Morningside College, Oral Roberts University, and the University of San Diego were among those competing.

2013 Key City Clash Gives Back to Local Charity

The University of Dubuque and Loras College continued their intense rivalry on the football field in 2013 in the Key City Clash football game. The proceeds from this year’s contest were presented to Opening Doors Maria House – Teresa Shelter. The 2013 donation marks the sixth consecutive year the two schools have given back to the Dubuque community. The schools donated a check of $2,500 to Opening Doors on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013.

Shaffer Honored As Jerry Petitgoue Coaches Award Honoree

The University of Dubuque recently honored the 2013-14 recipient of the Jerry Petitgoue Coaches Award to Clay Shaffer. This annual award was recently named in honor of Wisconsin Hall of Fame coach Jerry Petitgoue, long-time boys basketball coach at Cuba City, Wis. Petitgoue is the winningest coach in the state of Wisconsin history with 846 wins.

Hanus Named Duane Schroeder IIAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that former University of Dubuque football player Wyatt Hanus has been named the Duane Schroeder IIAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Year for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Racing Past the Color Line: Sol Butler and Paul Robeson in Collegiate Athletics

The University of Dubuque’s Charles and Elizabeth Bisignano Art Gallery, located in Heritage Center, will open the exhibition Racing Past the Color Line: Sol Butler and Paul Robeson in Collegiate Athletics on Monday, February 24 at 12:30 p.m. The exhibition focuses on the college experience of two exceptional African American athletes at predominantly white institutions during a period of widespread segregation. Before graduating in 1919, Sol Butler at Dubuque German College (now the University of Dubuque) and Paul Robeson at Rutgers College (now a state university) led their teams to unprecedented success, while paving the way for future African American students.

Sol & Paul: A One-Act Play

The Babka Theatre in the University of Dubuque’s Heritage Center will host the premier performance of the one-act play Sol & Paul on Thursday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m. The play imagines a conversation that may have taken place between star athletes Sol Butler and Paul Robeson at the famed Penn Relays track meet in 1916.

Kuehn Signs with Mannheim Tornados

University of Dubuque alum Spencer Kuehn has been announced as the newest member of the Mannheim Tornados. A First Team All-Iowa Conference selection in 2013, Kuehn is the first Spartans baseball player to sign a professional contract since Joe Hapanionek signed deals in 2005 and 2006. Kuehn will report to Mannheim, Germany in March to begin preparing for the season opener on April 6th.

Pair of Spartans Sign to Play in Pecos League

A pair of former University of Dubuque baseball players have signed to play in the Pecos League for the 2014 season. Jordan Gawronski has signed with the Bisbee Blue while Michael Campbell will suit up for the Raton Osos. The former Spartans will report for spring training on May 5th before opening the season on May 14th. They are the second and third members of the 2013 Spartans Baseball team to sign deals to continue playing joining Spencer Kuehn is playing in Germany.

2014 Athletics Awards Banquet

The University of Dubuque Athletic Department celebrated the 2013-14 Senior Student-Athletes on Monday, May 5th with its Senior Awards Banquet. Top awards handed out were Spartan Academic Achievement Award, Spartan Academic Student-Athlete Excellence Award, Student-Athlete of the Year, and Wendt Character Student-Athlete Award. Academic All-American and Athletic All-American were also recognized. A total of 59 seniors were honored during the ceremony.

2014 Chlapaty Fellows Selected

Sixteen University of Dubuque students have been designated as Joseph and Linda Chlapaty Fellows for 2014. Selected by a faculty committee, the students will carry out their Fellowship projects the summer of 2014.

Odegard & Wolfe Named Ping All-Central Region

University of Dubuque Men's Golfers Martin Odegard and Eric Wolfe were named to the 2014 Division-III Ping All-Central Region Team. The Spartans seniors are currently competing at the NCAA D-III Championships at Grandover Resort and Conference Center. A total of 92 student-athletes from six regions were honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America and Ping. Odegard and Wolfe each graduate as the only four-time All-Iowa Conference honorees in UD Men's Golf history.

Spartans Share American Football with France

The University of Dubuque football team is preparing to pack their travel bags as the spring semester winds down and fly to Spain and France for a nine-day tour (May 20-28, 2014). Sightseeing intertwined with a football game against the Toulouse Bears in Toulouse, France. The Spartans will spend most of their time visiting sights around Barcelona, Spain, including an excursion to Montserrat Mountain Monastery.
