Spartan Softball Swept on the Road

The University of Dubuque softball team were looking to bounce back after a pair of hard fought losses to #12-ranked Coe College this past Saturday. Monday proved to be challenging when they faced UW-Whitewater on their home turf, losing the opener 6-10 and 0-9 in game two.

Spartans Odegard Claims Medalist Honors

The University of Dubuque men's golf team rallied from four strokes down to tie for the lead in the Loras Invitational on Monday. The Spartans lost in the second tie break to place 2nd overall. Martin Odegard finished the tourney with rounds of 69 and 71 to claim medalist honors for UD with a score of 140.

Spartans Place 11 on Winter Iowa Conference All-Academic Team

The University of Dubuque placed 11 Student-Athletes on the 2013-14 Winter Academic All-Iowa Conference Team. To be eligible for the IIAC All-Academic Team a Student-Athlete must compete at the varsity level, be least a sophomore in academic standing, have attended the nominating institution for at least one academic year, and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average. The Spartans Women's Basketball team and Wrestling team each led their respective sport.

Spartans Split Behind 13 Runs in Opener

The University of Dubuque Baseball team earned a split in the Iowa Conference doubleheader versus Loras on Tuesday night. The Spartans scored in every inning en route to a season high 13 runs in the 13-4 victory in game one. UD lost the nightcap 5-4. Daniel Casanova scored six runs on the day.

Spartans Take Two from Top-Ranked Norse

The University of Dubuque softball team out hit #8-ranked Luther twice on Wednesday to capture a much needed sweep in the tough Iowa Conference to improve to 4-2 in league action and 17-9 overall. The Spartans used late game heroics to capture game one. Bottom of the seventh inning with score knotted at 6-6. UD began with a walk to Caitlin Aulwes. A pop up to the pitcher and a strike out left the Spartans with one out remaining. Ainsley Billesbach at bat, fouled off first pitch. Second pitch was a ball. The third pitch was a double to left field scoring Aulwes for the game winning hit 7-6. In game two, the Spartans jumped out early and captured the sweep by winning 6-4.

The University of Dubuque men's tennis dropped two out of three doubles matches on Thursday, but rallied to defeat the Loras College Duhawks 5-4 when they captured four singles matches.

Spartans Baseball Hosts Knights

The University of Dubuque Baseball team faced a daunting challenge on Friday afternoon against the Iowa Conference (IIAC) leading Wartburg College Knights. The Spartans and Knights played an even first game with Wartburg pulling away late for a 4-1 victory. UD lost game two, 19-7. Dalton Garst had an outstanding day at the plate with five hits in seven bats.

The University of Dubuque Women's Lacrosse team earned their first Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) victory on Friday night at Fontbonee University. The Spartans jumped out to a 5-0 lead within the first minutes in the 18-11 victory. Bridget Schirmers scored a team high six goals.

Back-to-Back Victories for UD Lacrosse

The University of Dubuque Women's Lacrosse team has won back-to-back games for the first time in the programs history with their 13-8 victory over the University of Dallas. The Spartans scored seven straight goals in the second half to pull away from Dallas after being tied 6-6 at halftime. Judy Borah scored three goals and assisted on three others for six points to lead UD.

Spartans Compete at USTFCCCA Meet of the Week

The University of Dubuque Track & Field teams made the short trip across the Dubuque-Wisconsin Bridge on Saturday morning for the UW-Platteville Invitational. The UW-P Invite was named the USTFCCCA Meet of the Week because of the high level of competition that was scheduled to participate. The women's team was pushed to their best, setting three school records. The UD men brought home two first place finishes.

Spartans Lead on the Road, Lose Late

The University of Dubuque softball team jumped out to early leads in both games on the road at Simpson College only to have them slip away late. The Spartans lost the opener 3-4 after giving up the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. UD lost game two by a score of 4-6 despite out hitting the hosts in the nightcap.

Valcin Wins Second Straight IIAC Track Performer of the Week Honors

University of Dubuque vaulter Rick Valcin earned his second straight Men's Outdoor Track & Field Performer of the Week award. Valcin won the pole vault at the UW-P Invite by clearing 16'-2.0" on his first attempt. He is undefeated during the outdoor season having won last week at the Wartburg Select where set posted a Division-III best height of 16'-4.75".

Spartans Softball Sweep Duhawks

The University of Dubuque softball team set a new record on Tuesday afternoon by capturing the 19th win of the season, a new school mark for the Spartans. UD swept past the Loras Duhawks by capturing the opening game 2-1 and ended the second game early after leading 9-0 in the fifth inning after UD's Hannah Koerperich threw her second no-hitter of the season. UD improved to 19-11 overall and 6-4 in the IIAC.

IIAC Performer of the Week Honors for McKenzie

University of Dubuque junior Nickolette McKenzie was named Women's Outdoor Track & Field (Field) Performer of the Week. McKenzie won the triple jump and long jump at the UD Good Friday Open. Her winning leap of 11.17m (36'-7.75") in the triple jump ranks 33rd in Division-III and leads the Iowa Conference.

Spartans to Compete at Drake Relays

The University of Dubuque Track & Field program will be well represented at the 2014 Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee. The UD women's 4x100m and 4x200m Relays teams were selected while the men's 4x100m Relay team will also compete. Spartans pole vaulter Rick Valcin will also compete. Nearly 8,000 track and field athletes will be competing in 111 events over the course of five days of competition beginning on Wednesday, April 23rd and ending Sunday, April 29th.

Football Earns 10 NFF Hampshire Honor Society Members

The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced today the members of the 2014 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career. A total of 838 players from 267 schools qualified for membership in the society's eighth year, setting a new record for the number of members in the history of the program, which began in 2007. The University of Dubuque is proud to lead the Iowa Conference with 10 new members.

Wolfe Named Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week

University of Dubuque golfer Eric Wolfe has been named IIAC Male Athlete of the Week and Golfer of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 27, 2014. Wolfe shot back-to-back 70's in the first two rounds of the IIAC Championships over the weekend under difficult conditions at Finkbine Golf Course. His 36 hole total of 140 (-4 under par) has him five strokes ahead for medalist honors.

Billesbach & Woltz Voted First Team Academic All-District

University of Dubuque sophomores Ainsley Billesbach and Tori Woltz have been named to the First Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District (District #8) Softball team. To be selected a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher and be a sophomore or above.

Wolfe Leads Spartans to IIAC Title

The University of Dubuque men's golf team won it's fourth IIAC Men's golf championship and it's first since 1975. Two factors remained the same, coach for this year's team champion and 1975 championship team was Jon Davison. The University of Dubuque captured its first men's golf title in 39 years after posting a 7-shot victory at the 2014 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Men's Golf Championships. With the victory, the Spartans automatically qualify for the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships May 13-16 at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.

Men's Golf Prepare for NCAA Division III National Championships

The NCAA Division III Men's Golf Committee has announced the teams and individuals selected to participate in the 2014 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships. The University of Dubuque men's golf team automatically qualified after winning the IIAC Championships on May 3. The championships will be held May 13-16, at Grandover Resort, in Greensboro, North Carolina. The championships will be hosted by Guilford College and the Greensboro Sports Commission.

2014 Athletics Awards Banquet

The University of Dubuque Athletic Department celebrated the 2013-14 Senior Student-Athletes on Monday, May 5th with its Senior Awards Banquet. Top awards handed out were Spartan Academic Achievement Award, Spartan Academic Student-Athlete Excellence Award, Student-Athlete of the Year, and Wendt Character Student-Athlete Award. Academic All-American and Athletic All-American were also recognized. A total of 59 seniors were honored during the ceremony.

University of Dubuque senior golfer Eric Wolfe repeated as Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week and Men's Golfer of the Week. He won medalist honors and IIAC Golfer of the Year honors after an 11-shot victory at the 2014 Iowa Conference Championships.

Five Spartans Named All-IIAC Softball

The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced its All-Conference Teams and major awards for the 2014 softball season with five Spartans earning recognition. Senior Amber Meyer and sophomore Ainsley Billesbach were named First Team All-IIAC. A trio of Spartans earned Second Team All-IIAC with Caitlin Aulwes, Hannah Koerperich, and Amanda Williams making the cut. UD finished the season with a school record 22 wins and qualified for the IIAC Tournament for the second straight year.
