Spartans Hang Tough in Close Loss to UW-La Crosse

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team had two shots in the last minute of play to re-take the lead late on Saturday afternoon but were unable to connect. The Spartans hung around all game with UW-La Crosse, never trailing by more than five in the 66-63 loss to UWL. Emily Brinker led UD with 16 points. Dubuque moves to 3-2 on the season.

Spartans Rally in Second Half to Remain Perfect

The University of Dubuque men's basketball team continued where they left off before Thanksgiving break and remain perfect in non-conference play after a 75-64 victory over Clarke University on Saturday. The game was tied at halftime 35-35 before the Spartans broke the contest open in the final half and led by as many as 17 points. Gage Heffernan was a key Spartan as he helped UD offensively with 20 points and defensively with a game high 16 rebounds including 11 defensive boards. He led UD with five steals and four assists in the win.

Carter & Lillibridge Named Academic All-America

University of Dubuque seniors Tyson Carter and Doug Lillibridge have been named to the 2013 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III Football Team. Carter earned First Team recognition while Lillibridge was a Second Team honoree.

UD Men's Soccer Advanced Player Winter Camp

The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer program is excited to announce the 2014 Advanced Players Winter Camp. The camp will be held in the new UD indoor turf facility on March 1st from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm with optional campus opportunities earlier in the day.

2013 Key City Clash Gives Back to Local Charity

The University of Dubuque and Loras College continued their intense rivalry on the football field in 2013 in the Key City Clash football game. The proceeds from this year’s contest were presented to Opening Doors Maria House – Teresa Shelter. The 2013 donation marks the sixth consecutive year the two schools have given back to the Dubuque community. The schools donated a check of $2,500 to Opening Doors on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013.

Spartans Open IIAC Dual Meet Season, Prepare for Jim Fox Spartan Open

The University of Dubuque wrestling opened their Iowa Conference dual meet season on Friday night against #3-ranked Luther College Norse. The Spartans edged out an early lead 10-9 when Nick Drendel (Fr., North Aurora, Ill./West Aurora HS) grabbed the win by a fall in 2:08 at 149 lbs. The top-ranked Norse re-took the lead after winning the next five matches before the Spartans Dan Howell (So., Oswego, Ill./Oswego HS) earned a fall in 1:36 at 285 lbs. UD's Brian Travis (Jr., Redington Shores, Fla./Northside Christian HS) currently ranked #9 in NWCA individual rankings was the only other victor after claiming a major decision at 141 lbs. by a 11-2 score.

8th Annual Jim Fox Spartan Open Results

The University of Dubuque Wrestling team hosted the 8th Annual Jim Fox Open on Saturday with 133 individuals taking part in the event. The Spartans top finisher was Dan Howell with a second place finish in the 285 lbs. division. Kody Krenz finished in third place at 133 lbs. while also picking up three wins by fall.

Rutenbeck Named First Team D3football All-Region

University of Dubuque wide receiver Tyler Rutenbeck was named First Team D3football All-Region. Rutenbeck leads Division-III with 22 touchdown receptions. He is the fourth UD receiver to earn All-Region honors since 2009. The D3football All-American team will be announced on Friday, December 20th during pregame coverage of the Stagg Bowl.

Spartans Fall to UD Alum Beinborn

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team fell to one of its own on Tuesday night in Stoltz Sports Center. The Spartans lost 63-54 to alum Mark Beinborn and his Augustana College Vikings (3-5). Daneshia Snitker led UD with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Dubuque is now 3-3 on the season.

UD Earns Alliant Energy Rebate for Heritage Center Energy Conservation Strategies

Spartans Cruise to 93-57 Victory

The University of Dubuque men’s basketball team cruised to a 93-57 victory over the North Central University Rams (Minn.) Friday night on Jon Davison Court. The Spartans jumped out to a 52-30 halftime lead highlighted by a Andre Norris breakaway dunk which awoke the crowd to its loudest roar of the night. UD’s largest lead was 38 points midway through the second half as 16 Spartans finished the evening in the scoring column.

Spartans Explode for School Record 127 Points

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team continued to reach new heights in the scoring department on Friday night. For the third time this season the Spartans have upped the school record for points in a game. The Spartans 127-57 victory against North Central University (Minn) was a total team effort with 17 Spartans scoring and 20 seeing court time. UD improves to 4-3 on the year and scored over 100 for the third time this year.

Spartans Battle #8-Ranked Kohawks

The University of Dubuque wrestling team wrestled #8-ranked Coe College in front of a loud crowd in McCormick Gymnasium on Saturday. The Spartans captured two matches as the Kohawks won eight en route to a 31-9 victory. The final score doesn't represent the wrestling on the mat as UD lost four matches by four points or less.

Spartans Outplay D3's Top Scoring Team

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team faced off with Division III's top scoring team in North Central College (Ill.) on Saturday afternoon in Stoltz. The Spartans went toe-to-toe with NCC in route to a 124-99 victory. UD topped 100+ points for the fourth time this season as seven Spartans finished in double figures.

All-American Honors Continue for Rutenbeck

University of Dubuque wide receiver Tyler Rutenbeck added a third All-American accolade with his selection to the First Team AP Little All-American Team on Thursday afternoon. Rutenbeck has also been named AFCA Division III All-American and First Team BSN All-American. He finished the season with 68 catches for 1,269 yards and a Division-III best 22 touchdown receptions for the Spartans.

Barwick Named Finalist for Johanna Olson Iowa Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year

University of Dubuque graduate Ashley Barwick was named a finalist for the Johanna Olson Iowa Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A standout in Soccer, Basketball, and Track & Field, Barwick was an Academic All-American in Soccer (First Team) and Track (Second Team) while also being named Academic All-Iowa Conference seven times.

Hanus Named Finalist for Duane Schroeder Iowa Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

University of Dubuque graduate Wyatt Hanus was named a finalist for the Duane Schroeder Iowa Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A standout on the Football field and in the classroom, Hanus was the IIAC Offensive MVP in 2012 and a two-time Academic All-American.

Spartans Score Over 100 Points for Third Straight Game

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team once again scored over 100 points in victory on Friday night. The nearly 60 degree difference in temperatue between Dubuque and St. Pete did not effect the Spartans as they beat Eureka 105-79 in their first game of the Basketball Destinations St. Pete Classic. UD finished the game shooting 50.0% (41-82) from the field. Dubuque improves to 6-3 overall and won their third game.

Spartans Finish 2-0 in Florida with 82-69 Victory

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team finished 2-0 on it's Pre-Christmas break trip at the Basketball Destinations St. Pete Classic at Eckerd College. The Spartans extended their winning streak to four games with a 82-69 victory against Alverno College on Saturday afternoon. Junior Jenna Kotas paced UD with 21 points including six three-pointers. Dubuque moves to 7-3 overall.

Kotas Named Iowa Conference Female Athlete of the Week

University of Dubuque forward Jenna Kotas has been named IIAC Women's Basketball Performer of the Week. Kotas averaged 22.5 points per game while averaging 23.0 minutes per game in two UD victories at the Basketball Destinations St. Pete Classic. Dubuque has won four straight games and is second in Division-III with 94.5 points per game.

Norris Earns Iowa Conference Performer of the Week Honors

University of Dubuque forward Andre Norris has been named IIAC Men's Basketball Performer of the Week. Norris scored finished with 25 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists in the Spartans 109-66 victory over AIB. He shot 10-13 from the field, 2-2 from three-point range, 3-3 from the free throw line, and threw down three dunks in the contest.
