Spartans Travel to Drake

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team faced a tough challenege on Friday night on the road at Division I Drake University. The Spartans were unable to slow the Bulldog offense in the 98-59 defeat. Jessica Goetz and Jenna Kotas led Dubuque on offense with 15 points each. UD is coming off a 2012-13 season in which they won a school record 20 games and advanced to the finals of the Iowa Conference Tournament.

The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team had its 2013 season come to an end in the 1st Round of the Iowa Conference Tournament. The fifth seeded Spartans loss to fourth seeded Simpson 2-1 with both Storm goals coming on Penalty Kicks. Daniel Morris scored in the 85th minute as UD attempted a late comeback. Dubuque ends the season with a 6-11-1 overall record.

Spartans Advance to IIAC Tournament Semifinals

The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team advanced to the Iowa Conference Tournament Semifinals with a 3-0 victory over Simpson College. Senior Alexandra Watkins had a hand in all three UD goals with a goal and two assists. The Spartans will play at Luther on Wednesday, November 5th at 7:00 pm in the IIAC Tourney Semifinals.

Spartans Lose High Scoring, Record Breaking Day

The University of Dubuque football began the afternoon looking to hold on to a tie for the conference lead, but for the second week in a row, UD lost the lead in the final seconds. UD led 46-43 with 1:31 left in the contest with the ball on the Simpson 35 yard line. The Storm scored on a touchdown to the corner of the endzone capping off a six play 65 yard drive in just :58 seconds. UD moved the ball ball inside the Storm 48 yard line with just :02 left on the clock. As time ran out the Spartans last pass attempt to the endzone was knocked away by a Storm defender.

Spartans Seventh at IIAC Championships

The University of Dubuque Women's Cross Country team finished in seventh place at the 2013 IIAC Cross Country Championships, hosted by Central. The Spartans top finisher on the 6,000 meter course was Fabiola Ortiz in 30th place overall at 24:43.2. A total of 120 runners competed on Saturday morning at the Central College Cross Country Course. UD will now begin preparing for the NCAA DIII Central Regional at St. Olaf College on November 16th.

Iowa Conference Performer of the Week Honors for Graefen and Watkins

University of Dubuque junior Kelsey Graefen repeated as the IIAC Women’s Soccer (Defensive) Performer of the Week and senior Alexandra Watkins was named IIAC Women's Soccer (Offensive) Performer of the Week for the second time this season. The Spartans went 2-0 on the week with a 1-0 win at Simpson in the regular season finale and a 3-0 win over Simpson at Oyen Field in the 1st Round of the Iowa Conference Tournament.

Bradshaw Named to D3football.com Team of the Week

University of Dubuque senior Bryan Bradshaw has been named to the Week 9 (Nov. 1-2) D3football.com Team of the Week. Bradshaw set UD and Iowa Conference records with 500 yards passing and 513 yards of total offense vs. Simpson.

Women’s Soccer Headed to IIAC Championship Game

The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team earned a repeat trip to the Iowa Conference Tournament Championship Game with a 1-0 win at Luther. Katie Lynn (Fox River Grove, Ill./Barrington) scored the game winner in the 64th minute as the Spartans and Norse battled temperatures in the low 30’s on Wednesday night. The UD victory set a new school record for wins in a season with 16!

Basierak Voted First Team Academic All-District

University of Dubuque sophomore Klaudia Basierak has been named to the First Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District (District #8) Volleyball team. To be selected a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher and be a sophomore or above. She is an Elementary Education major with a 4.0 GPA. Basierak finished the 2013 season with a team high 366 kills, 1234 attack attempts and 14 double-doubles (Kills-Digs).

Spartans Place Four on First Team Academic All-District Team

The University of Dubuque Football team placed four student-athletes on the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team as selected by CoSIDA for their performance in the classroom, in the community, and on the football field. Spartans selected were Tyson Carter, Doug Lillibridge, Zach Marotta, and Blaine Snitker. The 2013 voting marks the third straight year that the Spartans have placed four individuals on the First Team and 14 total all-district honorees in Head Coach Stan Zweifel’s five seasons at UD.

Basierak Named First Team All-IIAC Volleyball

University of Dubuque sophomore Klaudia Basierak was named First Team All-Iowa Conference for the second straight year while junior Amy Tranel was selected Honorable Mention. Basierak finished the year second in the conference with 95 kills in IIAC only games and second overall with 366 kills. UD qualified for the IIAC Tournament for the third consecutive year.

Spartans Blank Duhawks for Second Consecutive Year

The University of Dubuque Spartan football team kept the key in the 2013 Key City Clash and extended the streak to three consecutive victories. The Spartans have outscored the Duhawks 101-0 the past two seasons (45-0 in 2012 and 56-0 in 2013). The host Spartans converted in all six redzone opportunities in the 56-0 romp on Chalmers Field.

The Spartans were unable to overcome an early deficit in the 2-0 loss to Loras College. UD has made it to the IIAC Tournament Finals in back-to-back years and three of the last five years. Dubuque finishes the 2013 season with a 16-5-0 record.

Men’s Basketball Picked First in IIAC Coaches Preseason Poll

The University of Dubuque Men’s Basketball team, 2013 Iowa Conference Tournament Champions, have been named the favorite by the conference coaches in the Preseason Poll. The Spartans set a school record with 22 wins last season while qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. UD received four of seven possible first place votes and 53 points.

Spartans Win by 18 in Opener

The University of Dubuque Men's Basketball team opened the 2013-14 season in convincing fashion on Friday night. The Spartans used a 10-2 run to open the second half to coast to a 88-70 victory over North Central University (Minn) at the Northwestern Tip-Off Tournament. Brandon Ferguson led four Spartans in double figures with 18 points off the bench. UD finished the game shooting 50.0% from the field.
