Grand Opening Scheduled for UD’s New Heritage Center

The Grand Opening of Heritage Center – the University of Dubuque’s new fine, performing arts, worship and campus center – will take place Saturday, May 11, and will feature a pioneering joint performance by musicians from the Columbus Symphony Orchestra from Columbus, Ohio, and the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra featuring internationally renowned violinist, Gil Shaham. Marian Hoffman, Twin Cities vocal artist and University aluma, Class of 1955, will open the program with Irving Berlin’s classic, God Bless America.

Danna Sets Records in Split with Loras

The University of Dubuque Baseball team split the doubleheader against Loras College on Tuesday afternoon and wrapped up its four game series with an even 2-2 record. The Spartans and Duhawks also split on April 16th. UD won the opener 1-0 before falling in the second game, 8-5. Dubuque is now 10-22 overall and 8-16 in the Iowa Conference. The Spartans are one game out of the sixth and final spot in the upcoming IIAC Tournament.

Hanus Set to Participate in Vikings Rookie Minicamp

University of Dubuque senior quarterback Wyatt Hanus has been invited to participate in the Minnesota Vikings Rookie Minicamp. Hanus, the 2012 Iowa Conference Offensive MVP and Gagliardi Trophy finalist, will attend the Rookie Minicamp May 3rd through May 5th in Eden Prairie, Minn.

Six Spartans Named NFF Hampshire Society Members

The University of Dubuque was honored to have six student-athletes earn 2013 NFF Hampshire Honor Society accolades. The Spartans earning honors include: Ian Cooper, Wyatt Hanus, Miles Hookstead, Trevor Runkle, Malcolm Stewart, and Stephan Vassalotti. The Iowa Conference was represented by 26 student-athletes from University of Dubuque, Central College, Luther College, Simpson College and Wartburg College.

UD Social Justice Class to Hold Debate

On Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., the University of Dubuque Social Justice honors class will hold a debate in Blades Chapel. The intent of the debate is to provide illumination on two controversial topics. Students will engage in parliamentary style debating which involves alternating rounds and audience participation. The pubic is encouraged to attend this open event.

Weather Forces Schedule Changes for Weekend Action

Due to inclement weather throughout the Midwest numerous University of Dubuque athletic teams have had their schedules changed. Iowa Conference Championship events for Softball, Men's Golf, and Men's Tennis have all had their schedules changed. The regular season finale for Baseball and Track & Field were also effected.

UD Softball Ranked in NCAA Regional Poll

The University of Dubuque Softball team made school history by making its first ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Softball Rankings. The Spartans are #8 in the May 2nd Midwest Region Rankings. UD is 15-17 overall, 12-13 in region and 7-7 in the Iowa Conference.

The University of Dubuque Softball team had four student-athletes named All-Iowa Conference for the 2013 season. Amber Meyer was named First Team Utility. Susan Danielewski, Shawna Dole, and Meggie Schmidt were Second Team selections.

Alumni Makes $10 Million Gift to University of Dubuque

President Jeffrey F. Bullock today announced a $10 million gift to the University of Dubuque. The multi-million dollar estate gift, designated for student scholarships and the endowment of Heritage Center was made by a university alumni couple who prefer to remain anonymous.

2013 Chlapaty Fellows Selected

Fourteen University of Dubuque students have been designated as Joseph and Linda Chlapaty Fellows for 2013. Selected by a faculty committee, the students will carry out their Fellowship projects the summer of 2013.

Meyer Named NFCA All-Region

May 10, 2013

University of Dubuque junior Amber Meyer was selected Third Team All-Midwest Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Meyer, a First Team All-Iowa Conference selection, led the Spartans in hits, runs, RBI, home runs, total bases, walks, steals, batting average, on base percentage, and slugging percentage.

Athletics Awards Banquet

The University of Dubuque Athletic Department celebrated the 2013 Senior Student-Athletes at on Sunday, May 5th with its Senior Awards Banquet. Top awards handed out were Spartan Academic Achievement Award, Spartan Academic Athlete Excellence Award, Athlete of the Year, and Wendt Character Athlete Award.

Iben Named First Team Academic All-District

University of Dubuque Men’s Tennis student-athlete Shawn Iben (Clinton, Iowa/Camanche) has been named Division III First Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 At-Large. Iben was recently named the Spartan Academic Athlete Excellence Award winner for having the highest cumulative GPA among all UD senior student-athletes.

LoCasto Selected First Team Academic All-District

UD Women's Tennis student-athlete Stephanie LoCasto has been named First Team Academic All-District At-Large. LoCasto finished the year with 10 singles wins and a school record seven wins in doubles play.

Loggins Named Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach

Kendall Loggins has been named the new Women's Lacrosse Head Coach at the University of Dubuque. Loggins will continue to coach Women's Soccer in addition to her duties as Lacrosse Coach. She began at UD in 2011 as a graduate assistant for Women's Soccer.

UD Asst. Coach Munson Named to USA National Team Staff

University of Dubuque Baseball Assistant Coach Eric Munson has been named to the 2013 USA Baseball 18 and Under National Team coaching staff. Munson, a first year assistant for the Spartans, coached the hitters and catchers this past season. The 18U National Team will compete in Taichung, Chinese Taipei as a part of the IBAF AAA/18U World Cup from August 30 to September 8.

University of Dubuque Inducts Two Members to Faculty Hall of Fame

The University of Dubuque inducted two new members into its Faculty Hall of Fame on Thursday, May 9, 2013. Paul Jensen, associate professor of philosophy and religion, was recognized with the John Knox Coit Prize, and Leicester Longden, associate professor of evangelism and discipleship, was recognized with the William L. Lomax Award.

The University of Dubuque placed three Track & Field student-athletes on the Capital One Academic All-District (District #8) First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for their performance in the classroom and on the track. To be selected the student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher and be a sophomore or above. Spartans selected were Ashley Barwick, Tyler Dobratz, and Evan Zurbuchen.

Spartans Place 32 on Spring Academic All-IIAC List

The University of Dubuque placed 32 Student-Athletes on the Spring Academic All-Iowa Conference Team. To be eligible for the IIAC All-Academic Team a Student-Athlete must compete at the varsity level, be least a sophomore in academic standing, have attended the nominating institution for at least one academic year, and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average. UD Women’s Track and Field led all Spartan spring team with eight honorees.
